Morgan Stanley initiated coverage of Hitachi (6501.T) with an Equal-weight rating and a target price of 5,200 yen, implying 8% upside from the April 10 closing price of 4,810 yen. Following the initiation, many investors expressed strong optimism regarding Hitachi's medium to long-term growth prospects and corporate quality, particularly within the energy sector.

However, Morgan Stanley argues that market expectations are already elevated, making the risk-reward profile less attractive. Analysts project Hitachi Energy's revenue compound annual growth rate at 17% for the fiscal years ending March 2025 to March 2028, exceeding the company's 13–15% target. Still, this growth and margin improvement trail peers like Siemens Energy and GE Vernova.

Meanwhile, GlobalLogic is projected to grow only 7%, well below the company's 20% target, as AI-related spending pressures traditional IT services demand. Core free cash flow is forecast at approximately 1.0 trillion yen for the fiscal year ending March 2026, dropping to 730 billion yen the following year due to higher working capital needs and capital expenditures. Some investors believe this cash flow forecast is overly conservative and could drive additional share buybacks. Furthermore, recent reforms to employee stock compensation plans signal a shift toward a globally competitive corporate structure.
