Following the IBM Think 2026 conference, UBS noted that while IBM's artificial intelligence strategy and hybrid cloud platform are making positive strides, the near-term financial impact remains limited. IBM showcased updates to its Watsonx AI assistant, including new code generation and automation features, and announced AI partnerships with three Fortune 500 companies. However, management did not provide specific revenue guidance for these initiatives. UBS estimates that AI-related revenue will reach roughly $500 million in 2026, accounting for less than 3% of total company revenue.

The report highlighted that Red Hat business growth remains stable but contributes limited incremental profit, while consulting segment growth has slowed to low single digits due to macroeconomic headwinds. Although management reiterated a 2026 free cash flow target of $12 billion, UBS views this goal as carrying execution risk. Furthermore, UBS suggests that market expectations are potentially too high, especially given the lack of a 2027 outlook from management.

UBS maintained a Neutral rating on IBM with a price target of $200, based on 15 times 2026 expected EPS. The firm concludes that while IBM's AI evolution is underway, the lack of quantifiable financial impact, combined with balanced valuation, limits significant upside potential in the near term.
