Deutsche Bank's monthly monitoring report details the European market performance of Chinese automakers for April 2026. The data reveals that while Chinese brands continue to achieve year-over-year volume growth across Europe, the overall pace of expansion is moderating. In April 2026, collective sales for Chinese manufacturers in Europe grew 15% year-over-year, though they experienced a 3% sequential decline from the prior month. BYD delivered a particularly strong performance, selling 12,000 units and achieving a remarkable 40% year-over-year growth rate, which elevated its European market share to 2.5%.

Other major Chinese brands showed mixed but positive results. SAIC Motor's MG brand sold 8,000 units, representing 10% year-over-year growth. Geely's Polestar brand delivered 3,000 units, up 5% from the previous year. However, the combined electric vehicle market share for Chinese brands across Europe slipped slightly to 8%, down 0.5 percentage points from the preceding month. The report notes that waning EV subsidies in several European countries are tempering demand momentum. Despite this headwind, Deutsche Bank projects that Chinese brands will achieve total European sales of 500,000 units in 2026, representing a 20% year-over-year increase, though potential shifts in European trade policies pose a notable risk.
