On January 5, 2026, Lepu Medical's stock surged to the daily limit of 20%, primarily driven by brain-computer interface (BCI) themes. Several other BCI-related medical technology companies experienced similar gains that day. Market enthusiasm was fueled by three catalysts: Elon Musk's plans to expand Neuralink production in 2026, China's inclusion of BCI services in medical pricing guidelines with Zhejiang province integrating non-invasive BCI into local medical insurance, and key research updates from domestic companies.
Lepu has established presence in both invasive and non-invasive BCI. Its subsidiary Shenzhen Ruikangle focuses on non-invasive BCI for rehabilitation, while Lepu Medical Electronics develops invasive BCI products for real-time adaptive neuromodulation targeting Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, and chronic pain. In November 2025, Lepu received Chinese market approval for its rechargeable implantable deep brain stimulation (DBS) device, intended to treat advanced Parkinson's disease.
However, UBS believes it will take considerable time before BCI products generate meaningful revenue growth in China, and the firm has not yet incorporated potential revenue upside into its financial models. UBS maintains a Neutral rating with a DCF-derived target price of RMB 16.9, compared to the current stock price of RMB 18.97.
