UBS has upgraded Shanghai MicroPort MedBot from Neutral to Buy, raising the target price from HK$21.40 to HK$35.90. The upgrade reflects the company's exceptional international sales momentum and the anticipated achievement of operational breakeven in the first half of 2026. In 2025, MedBot's overseas revenue surged 287% year-over-year, with Toumai system sales increasing more than fivefold. The company strategically targets middle- and low-income developing countries across South America, South Asia, and Central and Eastern Europe.
These regions currently exhibit extremely low penetration rates for laparoscopic surgical robots. UBS projects that by 2034, cumulative demand in these markets will exceed 10,000 installed units, with MedBot poised to capture roughly a 25% market share. MedBot aims to double its total revenue in 2026 and increase its overseas revenue contribution to over 80%, up from 73% in 2025. While domestic competition remains intense with 13 approved robotic systems, supportive policies, including potential quota relaxations in the 15th Five-Year Plan, should provide long-term domestic growth visibility. Although the 2026 and 2027 price-to-earnings ratios appear elevated at 344 times and 77 times, respectively, the valuation appears compelling on a growth-adjusted basis. UBS highlights a 2027 price-to-earnings-to-growth ratio of just 0.4 times, significantly below the peer median.
